At Horizon Family Hub, everything we do is guided by one central mission: to support adults with intellectual disabilities as they work toward greater independence. We believe independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone—it means having the right community, resources, and opportunities to thrive.
How We’re Building Toward That Vision
Creating Community Through Social Programs
Isolation is a huge challenge that adults with intellectual disabilities face after leaving school. That’s why we focus on building circles of friendship and support. Our programs—like Fridays with Friends – offer a welcoming space where participants can connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. A strong community provides the foundation for confidence and independence.
Fostering Skills for Everyday Life
Independence is built one step at a time. Through group activities, games, crafts, movement, and shared experiences, we create opportunities to practice social and life skills in a safe and supportive environment. These moments of growth help participants gain confidence, strengthen problem-solving abilities, and discover what they are capable of achieving.
The Big Goal: A Physical Space for Horizon
While our current programs take place in borrowed spaces around the community, our long-term vision is to establish a permanent home for Horizon Family Hub—a space designed with adults with intellectual disabilities and their families at the center.
This space would be more than just a building. It would be a true hub for independence:
- A place with daily opportunities for skill-building that can grow as our community grows.
- A consistent, welcoming environment where participants know they belong.
- A resource for families, offering activities, support, and a network of peers.
- A launching pad for independence, where adults can practice cooking in a kitchen, navigating social interactions, and learning everyday skills they’ll carry into their lives.
- Most importantly, it would be a space where community members can rely on each other, celebrate milestones, and know they are not alone in this journey.
Join Us in Building the Future
We invite you -families, friends, and community members—to be part of this vision. Whether it’s joining us at a program, volunteering your time, or supporting our long-term goal of establishing a physical home for HFH, you can help us create a place where independence and community truly meet.
Together, we’re building something lasting. Together, we’re building independence.
